Examples / 例句
还是: 你是坐地铁还是打车？

或者: 周末你可以看电影或者去爬山。
Weekend: watch a movie or go hiking.
Quick rule: 还是 = or (in QUESTIONS, asking someone to choose). 或者 = or (in STATEMENTS, listing options). The most reliable test: is it a question? → 还是. Is it a statement? → 或者. Exception: 还是…吧 can appear in statements as advice meaning "had better" (还是别去了吧 = you'd better not go).
