给/向: 请你给我倒杯水。/ 我向老师请教了一个问题。
Qǐng nǐ gěi wǒ dào bēi shuǐ. / Wǒ xiàng lǎoshī qǐngjiào le yí ge wèntí.
Please pour me a glass of water. (给 = for someone) / I consulted the teacher about a question. (向 = toward someone)
Quick rule: 对 = attitude/effect ON someone. 给 = doing something FOR someone (transfer). 向 = moving TOWARD someone (direction/request). Common pattern: 对…有影响, 给…打电话, 向…学习.
