HSK 4 Pattern: 即使…也…
Assumes a hypothetical extreme situation, then states the result won't change. The condition may NOT be true — it's a worst-case scenario.
即使 + hypothetical condition, 也 + unchanged result

Jíshǐ míngtiān xià xuě, wǒ yě yào qù shàng bān.
Even if it snows tomorrow, I'll still go to work.
Tomorrow's snow hasn't happened — hypothetical
即使困难再大，我们也不会放弃。
Jíshǐ kùnnán zài dà, wǒmen yě bú huì fàngqì.

再 emphasizes 'even more extreme'
即使你不同意，我也要这样做。
Jíshǐ nǐ bù tóngyì, wǒ yě yào zhèyàng zuò.
Even if you disagree, I'll still do it this way.
Your disagreement is hypothetical / anticipated
即使遇到再大的困难，我们也要保持冷静。
Jíshǐ yùdào zài dà de kùnnán, wǒmen yě yào bǎochí lěngjìng.
Even if we run into bigger difficulties, we still have to stay calm.

Jíshǐ lǎobǎn dāyìng gěi wǒ gèng gāo de gōngzī, wǒ yě bú yuànyì jìxù zuò zhè fèn gōngzuò.

Common Errors / 常见错误
✗ 即使外面正在下大雨，他也出门了。
✓ 尽管外面正在下大雨，他还是出门了。
It IS raining right now (factual, 正在) → use 尽管, not 即使.
✗ 即使很累，但是我很开心。
✓ 即使很累，我也很开心。/ 虽然很累，但是我很开心。
即使 pairs with 也, NOT 但是. Use 虽然…但是 instead.
Easily confused: 即使 = even IF (hypothetical). 尽管 = despite (factual). This is one of the most tested distinctions at HSK 4.

What's the most common mistake with 即使…也…?
即使 = even IF (hypothetical). 尽管 = despite (factual). This is one of the most tested distinctions at HSK 4.
